Planning tooth replacement · Vista, CA
Immediate dentures.
An immediate denture is prepared before planned extractions and placed after the teeth are removed. It may be an option when a person needs dentures during the healing period.
Planning before extractions
Your dentist examines your teeth and gums and discusses whether extractions and an immediate denture are appropriate. Impressions or other records are taken in advance to plan the denture.
What makes the fit different?
Because teeth are still present during planning, the finished denture cannot always be fully tried in beforehand. Your dentist will discuss limitations in predicting appearance and fit, along with the likely need for adjustments.
Healing and follow-up
Gums and bone change after extractions. Follow the specific instructions for wearing the denture, cleaning, and returning for checks. Temporary lining materials, a later reline, or a new denture may be needed as healing progresses.
Keep your follow-up appointments and call about persistent bleeding, worsening pain, swelling, or difficulty wearing the denture. General website advice does not replace the instructions for your procedure.
