Denture relines.
Your mouth changes over time. A reline adjusts the fitting surface of a denture to better match your gums when the rest of the denture remains suitable.
When fit changes
Movement, sore spots, or changes in chewing can mean your denture needs attention. An examination helps distinguish fit problems from damage, bite changes, and oral tissue conditions. A reline is not the solution to every loose denture.
Hard, soft, and temporary relines
A hard reline uses firm material to reshape the fitting surface. A soft reline adds a more pliable layer for selected patients. Temporary tissue-conditioning materials may be used when the dentist wants tissues to recover before further work.
Your dentist will explain which approach is suitable, the visits or laboratory time needed, and how to care for the material. There is no fixed reline schedule that suits every patient.
Bring your questions
Ask whether the denture teeth and base are still in good condition, whether a reline can address your concerns, and whether replacement or another treatment deserves consideration.
