Home care after dental treatment.
Follow the written instructions provided for your procedure. This general guide does not replace your dentist’s advice or medication directions.
After fillings, crowns, or bridges
Avoid chewing and hot drinks while your mouth is numb. Follow the instructions for eating and cleaning around a temporary restoration. Call if a temporary crown comes off, your bite feels high, or pain persists or worsens. Do not use household glue.
After an extraction
Follow your clinician’s instructions for gauze pressure, cleaning, eating, activity, and protecting the healing site. Avoid smoking, vaping, straws, or vigorous rinsing as directed. Contact the office about bleeding that does not settle with the instructions you were given, increasing swelling, fever, or worsening pain.
After restorative or cosmetic care
Tell the office about an uneven bite or trouble using the restoration. Continue the recommended daily cleaning and attend follow-up appointments. Adjustments may be needed; do not file or alter a restoration yourself.
Medicines
Take medicines only as prescribed or directed for you. Do not exceed label doses or combine products without checking with your clinician or pharmacist. Share allergies, medical conditions, and other medicines with the team.
When to seek urgent help
For trouble breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, or a serious allergic reaction, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Our office is not a 24-hour emergency service; after-hours calls go to voicemail and are returned when we reopen.
