Periodontal maintenance.

After treatment for gum disease, ongoing maintenance helps monitor the supporting tissues and manage deposits and inflammation.

Different from a routine cleaning

Periodontal maintenance follows a history of periodontal disease and treatment. Your clinician checks gum measurements, bleeding, supporting tissues, and areas that need professional cleaning.

Your follow-up schedule

The interval depends on disease history, current findings, home care, smoking, medical conditions, and other factors. There is no single timetable for everyone, and treatment does not remove the need for monitoring.

What you can do at home

Brush with fluoride toothpaste and clean between teeth using tools recommended for your mouth. Tell the team about bleeding, looseness, swelling, or a change in your bite. Update your medical history and medicines at visits.

When further care is needed

New findings may lead to additional treatment or specialist referral. Ask what the measurements mean and which areas need extra attention.
