When a tooth needs
to come out.
Extraction is considered when a tooth cannot be saved or when removal supports your overall dental health. We’ll explain your options and what to expect.
Why an extraction may be recommended
Reasons can include severe decay or damage, infection, advanced gum disease, or problem wisdom teeth. Your dentist will examine the tooth, take any needed X-rays, and discuss alternatives when they exist.
What the visit is like
The area is numbed before the tooth is removed. You’ll receive clear aftercare instructions for the first days, including how to manage discomfort and swelling. If you feel anxious, tell us—we’ll talk through the plan beforehand.
Replacing an extracted tooth
Depending on which tooth is removed, replacing it may protect your bite and appearance. Options include dental implants, bridges, or dentures. We’ll discuss timing and options after your examination.
Swelling or severe pain after an extraction?
Call the office so we can advise you. For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
