Kids Dental Health Month.
February’s children’s dental health campaign is a reminder to build daily habits and make early care part of a child’s routine.

Start with the first teeth
The ADA recommends a first dental visit within six months of the first tooth appearing, no later than the first birthday. Early visits help caregivers discuss cleaning, diet, fluoride, and development.
Help with home care
Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste. Use a smear no larger than a grain of rice before age three and a pea-sized amount at ages three to six, with adult supervision. Begin cleaning between teeth that touch.
Ask about prevention
Your dentist recommends checkups, fluoride care, and sealants according to the child’s needs. Share medical conditions, medicines, and any concerns about cooperation or anxiety; a pediatric specialist may be appropriate for some children.
Keep the conversation positive
Use simple, calm words and let the team know what helps your child feel comfortable. No visit is guaranteed to be stress-free, but preparation and communication can help.
